An elderly woman was killed in Boyle Heights on Thursday after being struck by a semi truck driver who fled the scene of the accident.
The collision occurred in the 3700 block of Union Pacific Avenue at around 9:30 p.m. The truck struck the female pedestrian, who was looking for her cats outside of her motor home at the time of the accident.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, despite receiving assistance from a Good Samaritan. She has been identified as Cynthia Szukala, 69.
The truck driver did not attempt to notify authorities of the accident or help the old woman. He or she fled the scene without stopping, and has not been located.
The collision remains under investigation. There is currently no description of the truck or its driver.
