One person was killed after a multi-vehicle collision near Elk Grove on Sunday.

The collision occurred early in the morning, at around 1 a.m., on Highway 99 at Laguna Boulevard. A 2003 Honda swerved to avoid a slow moving vehicle in the right lane, and ended up losing control and colliding with the center divider wall under the overpass.

A Good Samaritan in a Jeep stopped to help the disabled driver, but a motorcyclist soon hit the two vehicles, causing the Jeep to collide with the Honda and throwing the motoryclist onto the road. The Honda was then struck by a Ford, and the downed motorcyclist was hit and dragged for a distance by a 1989 Toyota.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Tommy Jones, 26.

The driver of the Honda, 20-year-old Richard Salas, suffered minor injuries, along with a passenger in the Ford, which was driven by Isaias Godinez, 19. Neither one was hospitalized.

The other drivers involved have been identified as Dan Perlea, 39 (the Good Samaritan driving the Jeep) and Rafael Martinez, 53 (the driver of the Toyota).
