Child died as a parent looked on

In a horrible South Los Angeles pedestrian accident, a teenager driving a red 2014 Ford Mustang hit and killed a 13-yr-old skateboarder, Jarek Trejo, as one of the child’s parents watched every parent’s nightmare become reality. Jarek died at the scene of the accident, which occurred on Hooper Avenue in the area of 77th place, around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2015.

No other injuries were reported. California Highway Patrol investigators found Jarek Trejo dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Mustang, and 18-yr-old man, was reportedly not intoxicated. He stopped his car after it struck the skateboarder, and voluntarily submitted to field sobriety tests conducted by CHP officers.

What police reports do not say

While the CHP reported that Jarek Trejo rode his skateboard into the roadway, directly into the path of the oncoming vehicle, those facts don’t answer all the questions that would be asked by an experienced wrongful death attorney. How fast was the Mustang going?  Was the area frequented by skateboarders, indicating that drivers on the street should exercise a high level of caution?

Investigating civil negligence

Often, police reports don’t tell the whole story. Police investigate crimes, but even if no crime has occurred, a negligent or careless driver can be liable for the consequences of his actions. If you or someone you love has been injured or killed in a motor vehicle accident, you should immediately consult with a knowledgeable personal injury attorney. You or your family member may be entitled to monetary compensation for your losses, but you won’t know, unless you find someone who knows how to investigate negligence in an automobile crash.
