Four people were killed in a single-vehicle collision in Northridge on Friday.
The collision occurred at around 11 p.m. in the 9900 block of Balboa Boulevard, in the area of Lassen Street. The collision involved a black BMW sedan which was traveling at a high rate of speed when it collided with a tree. The vehicle split in half and burst into flames.
All four occupants of the BMW were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as Martin Gomez, 20; Denney Lomeli, 20; Amanda Alfar, 22; and Leena Ammari, 21. Gomez and Lomeli were best friends, and they were in relationships with the two girls, Alfar and Ammari, who were also best friends.
The collision remains under investigation, but it is believed that the BMW was traveling at 100 miles per hour, or three times the posted speed limit. Although no other vehicles were directly involved in the crash, witnesses and surveillance footage indicate that the BMW was street racing with another vehicle, also a black sedan.
Police are searching for the second vehicle, which was last seen speeding away from the crash on Lassen Street.
