San Francisco Pedestrian Killed

A female pedestrian was killed on Union and Buchanan Streets in the Cow Hollow neighborhood of San Francisco, in the first pedestrian death in the city of 2017.

The incident happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. The pedestrian was apparently hit by a truck pulling a trailer while crossing the street. Eyewitnesses say that she was run over, and trapped beneath the car until paramedics could free her.

After police arrived, they took the woman to San Francisco General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries at approximately 2 p.m.

The driver of the accident has cooperated with police. The incident is still under investigation, and it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were a factor, or if the driver broke any traffic laws.

Following the death of the pedestrian, there were renewed calls for an increased focus on traffic safety within San Francisco.
