A driver was killed in a car fire on Highway 280 in San Jose early on Sunday.

The collision, which took place at around 2:30 a.m. in southbound lanes near 11th Street, involved a chain reaction that was caused by a Lexus that lost control while speeding.

The Lexus hit multiple other vehicles, including a Honda, which then burst into flames. Despite the best efforts of several other drivers to rescue the person trapped in the Honda, he burned to death.

The driver of the Lexus, along with one passenger, were also hospitalized. The extent of their injuries is unclear. The collision remains under investigation, and alcohol is suspected as a factor.
