A bicyclist was killed on Thursday after being struck by a dump truck in the Greektown neighborhood of Chicago.

The collision occurred at around 7:10 a.m. at the intersection of Halsted and Madison streets. The truck was making a right turn from northbound Halsted onto Madison when it hit the bicyclist, who was also traveling north on Halsted.

The bicyclist was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and pronounced dead from multiple injuries less than half an hour later. She has been identified as 39-year-old Angela Park of South Prairie Avenue.

Ms. Park was a mother of two daughters as well as a personal trainer and triathlon coach.

The truck driver is reported to have received a citation, although their name has not been released. Some attorneys and traffic safety experts have said that this type of accident involving vehicles striking bicyclists while turning right is common, and that implementing side guards on trucks might minimize the severity of such crashes.

The collision remains under investigation.
