A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a car in Niles on Friday.
The collision occurred at around 5:48 a.m. at the intersection of Touhy and Central avenues. The pedestrian was crossing Touhy when she was hit by a westbound vehicle.
The pedestrian was found unresponsive at the scene. She was hospitalized and pronounced dead shortly afterwards. She has been identified as Patricia Dahnke, 63.
The driver of the vehicle which hit Dahnke, a 2010 Chevy Malibu, was a male aged 60. His name has not been released.
The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation, but drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been factors.
It is believed that Dahnke was crossing the street against a red light, and the view of the driver was blocked by a semi truck making a left turn from Touhy to Central. He was alerted to the danger by a passenger, and attempted to swerve to avoid the crash.
However, the driver received a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
