Last night a good Samaritan, 20-year-old woman, trying to help accident victims on the 78 freeway near the Vista Village Drive exit was struck by a car and seriously injured in a hit and run accident. The identities of the individuals have not yet been released and we will follow the story as the updates are received.

What we know so far is that Monday night at around 11:30pm a Nissan Altima crashed into the center divider on the eastbound 78 freeway when the driver tried to avoid a mattress on the freeway. Soon after that, a Toyota pickup truck actually struck the mattress on the 78 freeway, spun out-of-control and collided with the Altima on the freeway. A Good Samaritan who saw the crash, got out of her car and attempted to render aid to both cars. After checking on the Altima driver, she cross the eastbound lanes of the 78 freeway and was struck by a ‘dark sedan’ who immediately fled the scene.

The Good Samaritan was taken immediately to Palomar Medical Center with major injuries.
