The expertise of a drunk driving attorney would be required after a suspected DUI motorist driving an allegedly stolen car led police in a heated pursuit that resulted in a non-fatal crash. The alleged car thief was arrested following the incident on Wednesday, April 29, in Hillcrest, California.
The incident began at about 10:55 pm, when the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Miguel Garcia Carreon, got into the passenger seat of a vehicle left unlocked by its driver. The car’s owner reportedly left the car running before stepping out briefly.
However, before the owner walked a few feet, he saw the suspect enter his vehicle, prompting him to return and get into the driver’s seat. This aggravated Garcia Carreon, who proceeded to assault the 23-year-old car owner with several punches and kicks.
When the man failed to alight the vehicle, the suspect got out and forced the victim out of his car, continuing his affront. Afterward, the car thief assumed the driver’s seat and sped away, leaving the victim severely brutalized.
A patrol officer sighted the suspect a few miles away and immediately followed in pursuit. Minutes into the chase, the stolen vehicle crashed on the roadway, which made the suspected thief abandon it and take to his heels. He barely covered a mile when officers accosted him and took him under arrest.
Miguel Garcia Carreon is being held at the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of carjacking and driving under the influence. His bail was set at $100,000, with an arraignment slated for Friday, May 1.
