While walking with a friend in Oakmont, California, 85-year-old Jackie Simon is “clinging to life” after being hit by an intoxicated driver.
77 year-old Gayle Gray was booked on $100,000 bail into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of prescription drugs and alcohol. She was later released after posting bail.
Simon and her friend, 91 year-old Josephine Ross, were walking near the Oakmont Village Market at around 1:20 in the afternoon when Gray hit both of them. She claimed she had mistaken the gas for the brake, though police later found her to be under the influence.
Simon remains in “very weak” condition at a nearby hospital. Ross is also hospitalized, but for lesser injuries.
