A week after a male motorist lost his life in a solo crash on Interstate 640 in the Sunol area of California, he has been identified. Updates made to the accident report on Thursday, August 13th, revealed his name as Samuel Zavala, a 20-year-old Walnut resident.
According to the California Highway Patrol, at about 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 6th, the victim drove a Toyota car on the highway. For unknown reasons, Zavala crashed and overturned, and the impact ejected him from the vehicle, leaving him critically injured.
Responding medics rushed the man to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where he passed away while receiving treatment. The CHP said Zavala was the only victim of the incident. The investigation to determine the cause is ongoing, and the investigators will release an update when they have more information.
Solo car crashes are not uncommon, and it only involves one car and its occupant or occupants. Often, the driver loses control of the vehicle, veers off the road, collides, with an animal or tree. The factors leading to it are similar to other types of traffic collisions, and they are avoidable.
Drivers would increase their chances of avoiding a single-vehicle crash if they follow and maintain the speed limit. The faster a person drives, the longer it would take to apply the brakes in time to prevent an accident. Also, motorists should pay attention to the road and look out for objects that might cause a collision and avoid them.
