The California Highway Patrol identified the man who died in an auto-pedestrian accident on a highway in Windsor, California. Updated accident reports released on Monday, June 29th, disclosed the victim’s name as Stephen Barrey, 38, of Oceanside.

The accident occured on Saturday, June 27th, on northbound Highway 101 at about 10:40 p.m. south of Arata Lane. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Barrey in the right lane while the BMW he was driving still had its engine running, and the right-side door opened.

Officer David DeRutte said they believe that alcohol might have been a factor, and the victim most likely stepped out of the car to urinate when a Subaru Outback heading north struck him. The female driver of the second car pulled into the right shoulder and waited for emergency services.

The woman cooperated with the investigation, and the CHP said she was not under the influence. They asked anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward and give their statement as it’s possible there was another person with Barrey because of the opened right door of the BMW.
