Sacramento Vehicle-on-Pedestrian Accident Victim Identified as Alejandro Rangel

On Tuesday, February 11th, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified 46-year-old Alejandro Rangel, as the victim of Monday, February 10th, vehicle-on-pedestrian accident. The accident occurred in the evening in South Hagginwood.

Police officers responded to a 911 call and arrived at the scene of the accident a little after 6 p.m. The car which was driven by an unnamed driver hit Rangel near Rio Linda Boulevard and Las Palmas Avenue.

The Sacramento Police Department Spokesperson, Officer Karl Chan, said Rangel suffered severe injuries. He got transported to the hospital where he died later in the night.

The driver did not flee the scene but remained to work with police officers as they tried to understand what happened. Chan noted that impairment and negligence on the side of the driver is not an issue.

However, the police are yet to determine if Rangel was walking within the sidewalk when he got hit. The city of Sacramento has one of the highest crash rates in the state of California.

Sacramento officials have increased efforts to reduce the rate of accidents in the city. The city put up signs lowering the speed limit to 15 miles per hour in about a hundred and fifteen school sites.

It also closed off a small section next to Broadway in Oak Park, a frequent crash site. The city plans to change the four traffic lanes at Broadway to two to slow down drivers and make the corridor safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and traffic managers.

The city has advised pedestrians to stick to the sidewalk to prevent getting hit. Drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists should also obey traffic regulations and safety rules.
