On Tuesday, February 18th, the California Highway Patrol identified the man involved in the tractor-trailer accident on Highway 126, east Ventura, California. He is 58-year-old Taylor Wright from Oxnard.
Wright died at the Ventura County Medical Center. He was taken to the hospital alive by first responders but later succumbed to his wounds.
The CHP stated that its investigations showed that the Monday, February 17th, wreck occurred when Wright’s Peterbilt tractor-trailer was on Wells Road to westbound Highway 126 heading north. The vehicle was traveling at high speed when it hit a metal guardrail.
The guardrail was on a circular ramp that swoops from the northbound Wells onto the Highway. CHP added that the trailer overturned, and a metal shipping container attached to it became dislodged.
The Ventura Fire Department tried to get to Wright on time, but they had very little space to work in. However, the firefighters managed to get him out at about 4:50 p.m.
Two heavy wreckers helped to haul away the tractor-trailer from the road. They worked on clearing the way for several hours and reopened it to traffic at about 9 p.m. after taking care of a fluid leak from the vehicle.
The accident was a single-vehicle crash, and there was no other victim involved apart from Wright. The CHP is in charge of the investigation and working with other local authorities. Most tractor-trailer accidents in California are caused by drivers over speeding or falling asleep behind the wheel. Authorities have advised drivers to maintain the speed limit to enable them to brake on time and get enough rest before going behind the wheel.
