In the early hours of Wednesday, February 19th, a multiple-vehicle crash left Luis Uribe, 37, of Corvina, injured, and an unnamed 55-year-old man, from Montclair, dead. The accident happened at the Interstate 10 Freeway, California.
The crash involved three vehicles, and the California Highway Patrol suspects that the third driver, Ana Guillen, 57, of West Covina, was driving under the influence. The CHP responded to a 911 call about the crash at about 4 a.m.
The investigation by the CHP uncovered that Guillen was traveling at a slow speed in a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe in the fifth lane near Francisquito Avenue. She suddenly got side swiped by a ’93 Nissan pickup truck driven by the unnamed man.
The truck spiraled out of control and ended up in the middle of the freeway facing north. Next, it got hit by a Honda Accord driven by Uribe, who was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision.
The impact left the unnamed man dead, as he succumbed to his injuries. Uribe ended up with a fractured back, and an ambulance took him to the Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina.
Guillen was also injured, and she also got arrested on the DUI suspicion. She was taken to the Kaiser Park Medical Center, where she obtained a mental evaluation to determine her state of mind.
The police and the CHP are still investigating the cause of the crash. They have not released the name of the deceased man, and have invited anyone with information to contact their offices.
