A multiple-vehicle crash on the Westbound 10 Freeway, California, ended the life of Felipe Cobain, 55, of Montclair, on Wednesday, 19th February. The accident happened in the early hours of the day, at about 4 a.m.
Cobain was heading west in his ’93 Nissan truck when he hit from behind a Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by Ana Guillen, 57, from West Covina, that was neither mobile nor in a fixed position on the lane. The rear-end hit displaced the deceased’s vehicle and landed it in the middle of the freeway.
The Nissan truck then got hit by a 2018 Honda Accord, driven by Luis Uribe, 37, of Covina. The latter suffered a spinal fracture and was taken to the hospital when the paramedics arrived for treatment.
Cobain, on the other hand, died at the scene of the crash. He suffered multiple severe trauma, and there was nothing the medics could do for him.
Guillen also got injured, and the first responders had to extricate her from her vehicle. Immediately they brought her out, it was evident to the authorities that she was under the influence.
However, the authorities have not determined if alcohol or drugs are the cause of her impairment. Guillen got arrested at the scene and was also taken to the hospital for an evaluation of her mental health.
The police have not released the charges against the Hyundai driver. But under California law, she faces a DUI charge, as well as personal injury claims from the deceased’s family and the injured man.
If found guilty, the court will rule that Guillen makes restitutions. Also, she would have her driving privileges suspended for not less than 12 months.
