Chan Park Identified As Victim of Los Angeles Pedestrian Accident

The Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles, California, on Monday, March 2nd, revealed the name of the man who died in a pedestrian accident. He is an 87-year-old male, Chan Park.

The accident that killed the older man occurred on Saturday, February 22nd. According to the police report, Park was hit at about 4:10 a.m. when an unknown driver crashed into him as he was about to cross the intersection at 2900-block of West 8th Street.

When the first responders got to the scene, they found the deceased on the road with the driver nowhere in sight. Park survived his trip to the hospital but passed away shortly after his arrival.

The police have not identified the driver of the vehicle or its make, and are still trying to track the person down. The LAPD has asked anyone with helpful information to contact their office.

Pedestrian accidents are not uncommon in Los Angeles, and it often leads to fatalities. When a driver hits a person and fails to stay behind to help, it becomes a hit-and-run, which is a criminal offense in California.

If the person gets caught and gets convicted after trial, he or she faces a short time in prison if it’s a misdemeanor charge, or a few years if it’s a felony. Also, the court makes the person pay a fine, or give both the latter and imprisonment.

If there’s a civil suit in addition to the criminal charge, the offender will make restitution to the victim, or his or her family or estate, if there’s a death. Restitutions are monetary compensation, which the court calls damages.
