The rate of pedestrian accidents in California and the United States have gone up in recent years. Vehicle-versus-pedestrian crashes have a high fatality rate, and victims who survive have life-altering injuries.
The causes of traffic crashes are the same all over the country. Traffic reports show that over speeding, running red lights and stop signs at intersections often leads to drivers knocking down pedestrians.
On the part of pedestrians, accidents occur when people fail to cross at designated crosswalks. To reduce the rate of crashes and fatalities, pedestrians are advised to use the crosswalks and stay off the side of the road when on a sidewalk.
Drivers should drive within the designated speed limit and obey stop signs and traffic lights. They should also give pedestrians the right of way, and always be on the lookout for them.
