Authorities this week identified the person killed Saturday morning in an apparent hit-and-run crash in College Park.

Henry L. Washington, 60, of Washington, D.C., died after he was struck by a vehicle Feb. 29, according to Prince George’s County Police. The incident occurred in the Inner Loop of the Beltway, a police press release stated.

Authorities said Maryland State Police troopers were called to the area at 5:30 a.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a body found lying in the area. Troopers arrived on the scene and found the victim, who was pronounced dead.

Investigators determined Washington was on foot when he was struck by a vehicle. The incident is believed to have occurred sometime between 3 and 5:30 a.m.

While the vehicle was not identified, authorities believe it might be a recent-model Nissan Altima that sustained extensive damage on the passenger side of the car.

The Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner investigated and were able to identify Washington as the victim.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Maryland State Police College Park Barracks at 301-345-3101. Tipsters can remain anonymous, if they so choose.
