An accident in the school district of Caruthers, 15 miles from Fresno, California, on Tuesday, March 3rd, left a woman injured. The authorities identified her as Melissa Gone.
Gone was pinned between a car and a school bus near the Caruthers Elementary School. According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident took place at about 3 p.m. in the parking lot of 1 Tiller Avenue.
The driver of the school bus was attempting to move into the driveway, and the woman was directing the driver to the best place to park. At some point, for unknown reasons, the bus struck Gone, pinning her.
Gone seemed to have significant injuries at the time and was flown to the Caruthers Regional Medical Center. At the hospital, doctors found that the woman’s wound was minor, and after getting treated, they discharged her.
The bus that hit Gone was transporting students of Strathmore High School to a softball game. Neither the driver nor the students got injured, and no one else was involved in the accident.
The CHP did not cite the driver for negligent driving, and it is unclear at this point if Gone would file a civil lawsuit. California law allows a victim of an accident to bring a personal injury claim against a driver of a vehicle after an accident occurs.
The person bringing the claim must have been injured from the accident, and prove that the driver was negligent in his or her actions. The person must also prove that he or she suffered a degree of loss from the accident before the court can grant restitution.
