Union Pacific Train Kills Pedestrian, Terrance Ellison, In Lodi

A Lewiston man was reported dead on Sunday, February 24, following an accident which occurred along the Union Pacific rail track in the City of Lodi, located in San Joaquin County, north of California’s Central Valley.

The city’s police department got a call concerning a locomotive accident which occurred on the rail tracks near Pine street, claiming the life of a pedestrian at about 8:35 pm.

Upon responding at the crash-site, the police found the victim brutally crushed by the Union Pacific locomotive, with multiple fatal injuries. He was declared dead on the scene.

The dead man has since been identified by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office as Terrance Ellison, a 64-year-old from Lewiston, California.

Investigations into the fatality revealed that the locomotive crash victim put himself on harm’s way by sitting in a non-pedestrian area. According to the county sheriff’s office, Terrance was purportedly seated on the rail tracks near Pine street when the fast-moving Union Pacific railroad train approached and struck him.

Authorities are unaware of why the elderly Lewiston man was stationed on the railroad, nor why he failed to move on time as the train approached.

No passenger onboard the locomotive was harmed in the pedestrian-locomotive crash. Details of the train’s destination and number of passengers involved were not immediately released.

Further investigations are in the works to ascertain the cause of the crash as well as the victim’s motive for taking up position on the busy track.
