A man has been charged with DUI on Friday, March 6, following a police chase through Danville town, in San Ramon Valley of Contra Costa County, California.
The Danville Police Department confirmed that the drunk driver, identified as James Reidy, from Concord, had been on their radar several moments before emergency calls came in, alerting them of a suspected DUI motorist disrupting the local traffic.
Several road users called the Danville Police Department at about 11:20 am, reporting a reckless driver, driving above the speed limit with the door on the driver’s side open.
The high-speed motorist was driving a white Toyota Camry, which matched the description of a vehicle being sought by the California Highway Patrol for traffic-related offences in other streets.
On police arrival, they found the 53-year-old Concord resident plying the lane of the opposite traffic near Sycamore Valley Road, before making a swift, reckless U-turn towards southbound El Capitan.
In his flight, the DUI driver drove over a curb, got stuck and was forced to halt abruptly. Attempts by the authorities to get to him to alight the restrained vehicle proved abortive until an officer tased and successfully subdued him.
The drunk driver was then treated on the scene by the Fire Protection District, for minor injuries sustained during the chase.
He was taken to the Martinez Detention Facility and charged for suspected DUI, fleeing police, obstructing oncoming traffic by driving the wrong way during flight from police, and violating probation.
