19-Year-Old Austin Imboden Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash

The San Angelo Police Department has released the name of the driver who was involved in a single-car crash around 9 p.m. on Thursday.

He is Austin Imboden, 19, of Round Rock, Texas.

Police said the crash happened in southeast San Angelo in the South Concho Community Mobile Home and RV Park.

Initial investigations showed that Imboden was driving west along Mobile Park Road in a 2001 Honda Civic. For some reason, the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree. It then caught afire.

A resident was able to put out the fire.

Justice of the Peace Fred Buck pronounced Imboden dead at the scene.

Police said multiple witnesses reported that the young man was traveling at a high rate of speed.

In a statement, SAPD said officers found alcohol drink cans in the car. However, it has not yet been determined if Austin Imboden was impaired at the time of the accident. Results from his blood tests are pending.

It is illegal to drive while impaired by drugs or alcohol. A driver is also legally impaired if they have a blood alcohol concentration of .08 percent or more.

Police said the investigation was ongoing and no other information was immediately available for release.

Drivers are usually thought to be at-fault for single-car crashes. However, road hazards, weather conditions, and vehicle malfunction can all play a role. The vehicle often crashes into a tree, hits a guardrail, spins without hitting anything or runs off the road and flips.
