A 34-year-old woman suffered a broken leg after her Ford Focus was struck by another vehicle which jumped the red signal on the traffic light on Highway 101 in Petaluma, California. The almost fatal occurrence happened on the morning of Friday, March 13.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash at about 7:42 am. Officers dispatched to the scene of the wreckage determined that the victim was driving a Ford Focus along the Highway when she reached a traffic light with the red signal up.
She waited at the intersection until the traffic light displayed the green signal before attempting a left turn to join the south Highway 101.
However, just as she made her turn, an oncoming vehicle, driven by 37-year-old Chad Greenlief ran the red light on the opposite traffic and collided head-on with the victim’s car.
The impact of the collision drove her vehicle off-course, causing the victim to sustain a major injury to her leg. Emergency responders transported the 34-year-old woman to Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Santa Rosa, where her leg was confirmed broken. Chad was unscathed in the collision.
The identity of the injured motorist, who was the sole occupant of the Ford, was disclosed as Rachel Kord. The severity of the damage to her leg was not stated in the report provided by the CHP.
Although the hospitalised crash victim reserves the right to press charges against Chad Greenlief for personal injury since he was clearly at fault for disobeying traffic rules, she is yet to indicate interest in filing a lawsuit.
The tragic incident remains under investigation by the CHP.
