Investigators have identified the teen driver killed in a head-on wreck over the weekend in Placer County.
The California Highway Patrol this week said Alyssa Scheda, 18, of Grass Valley, died after the crash, which occurred at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday near the Nevada County line. One other person also suffered serious injuries in the collision.
Troopers said Scheda was driving a sedan south on California 49 when she drifted into the northbound lanes near Lone Star Road. She then struck a northbound vehicle head-on before crashing into a truck.
Scheda suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The driver of the northbound sedan also suffered serious injuries, according to the California High Patrol. Scheda was the only driver involved in the incident who was identified publicly by authorities.
Drugs and alcohol aren’t believed to be contributing factors in the wreck, according to authorities. However, the California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate.
The crash resulted in a multi-hour traffic snarl on the state highway, though authorities were able to keep motorists moving through the area.
Local media reports state Scheda was a 2019 graduate of Bear River High School, part of the Nevada Joint Union High School District.
