Authorities have identified the pedestrian who was fatally struck by a vehicle Thursday morning in North Reading.
Marianne Quam, 70, of North Reading, died from her injuries after she was struck by an SUV, authorities reported. No other injuries were reported.
Police said Quam was walking near 270 Main St. in North Reading at about 6:30 a.m. when she was struck by a vehicle. Quam was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.
The driver of the SUV, who was not identified publicly by authorities, remained at the scene and was cooperative with investigators, according to authorities. No citations or charges have been announced.
Officials at the nearby Stop & Shop, a local location of a large grocery store chain, confirmed that Quam was an employee of the business and was walking to work at the time she was struck.
Store leaders shared a statement with local media bout the incident.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to our associate’s family and to the store team,” they wrote. “Our employee assistance team is at the store to help counsel and support our associates, and we are cooperating with local law enforcement in their investigation.”
