A 45-year-old motorist met his end on Wednesday morning after his car slammed into a logging truck along Interstate 985 in Gwinnett County, California. The fatal accident occurred some minutes after 7 am on Wednesday, March 18.

Gwinnett County Police department received an emergency call at about 7:30 am, alerting them of the deadly situation on I-985 North. Authorities reported that the fatal victim was plying the roadway in his Kia Sportage when a truck pulled onto the interstate right in front of the 45-year old’s vehicle, near Buford Drive.

The Kia Sportage crashed into the truck in its path, sustaining several damages as a result. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the dented car, died on the scene of the crash, still restrained in his vehicle.

The deceased motorist was later identified as Keith Tumlin, a 45-year-old Gainesville resident.

The operator of the logging truck, who waited at the scene pending police arrival and cooperated thereon, was not injured in the tragic collision.

Upon interrogation, the motorist explained that he was driving out of an earlier parking spot to join the interstate after attending to an equipment issue when he was rear-ended. The identity of the truck driver was withheld.

As a result of the fatal accident, authorities of Gwinnett County shut down parts of the north lanes on I-985 for hours while the wreckage was being cleared off. The scene of the crash was also combed for evidence, to facilitate police investigations.

The road became accessible at about 9 am.
