– Authorities said a man died Wednesday afternoon in a tractor rollover in Franklin County.
Jaime Alcaraz-Guizar, 53, died from injuries sustained in the incident, which occurred in a field north of Pasco at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. No one else was involved and no other injuries were reported, according to authorities.
Guizar was working in a field in an orchard in the Eltopia area when his tractor rolled down an embankment, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. Emergency personnel arrived on scene, but Guizar had already sustained fatal wounds, authorities said.
“Unfortunately, the tractor driver died at the scene prior to our arrival,” sheriff’s department officials wrote in a release.
The local coroner’s office told media outlets that an autopsy will not be performed, but a blood test has been scheduled. Details about led to the incident haven’t been released.
“This sad situation is another reminder that our farming community makes great sacrifices to give us many of the conveniences we enjoy as a society and will likely be part of the backbone that helps get us through these rough times,” sheriff’s department officials wrote in a press release.
“Don’t forget to hug a farmer (from a safe distance, for now),” department officials continued.
