The California Highway Patrol has taken a suspected DUI driver into custody after he crashed into another vehicle and overturned in Eureka, California. The incident took place on March 18.
CHP officials reported that the suspect was driving above the speed limit in a Mercedes prior to the crash.
Investigators determined that the incident took place just outside the 2500 block of Walnut Drive, where a vehicle with no occupant was parked. The drunk driver slammed into the sitting car, causing the Mercedes to flip over, coming to rest with its roof down.
The traffic offender, who was later identified as Lee Her, a 34-year-old resident of Eureka, failed field sobriety tests, confirming he was driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or both.
The motorist was reportedly not the only occupant of the car at the time of the crash. None of the passengers was seriously hurt as they all declined treatment.
Addressing the issue, the CHP Public Relation Officer, Paul Craft, noted that although no casualty was reported, the DUI driver was liable to be held on charges of Felony DUI whether or not visible injuries were sustained in the accident.
As a result of the incident, the flow of local traffic was briefly disrupted until two tow trucks successfully cleared the wreckage from the scene. The identity of the other dented vehicle’s owner was not disclosed immediately.
Meanwhile, Lee Her was arrested for felony DUI and is being held at the Humboldt County Correctional facility.
