The 23-year-old Oakland man who died in a tragic two-vehicle collision in Clayton, California, on Tuesday morning has been identified by the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office. Authorities on Thursday, March 26, disclosed the victim’s identity as Lamarcus Smith.
The deadly collision took place at about 9:35 am on Tuesday, March 24, along Clayton Road, leaving one victim injured and another dead.
According to the Clayton Police Department, the fatal victim was traveling as a passenger in a car along the roadway when the vehicle suddenly skidded off the traffic lane and crashed into a utility truck which was parked in the 5400 block of Clayton Road, near Duncan Drive.
Investigators determined that the car was conveying two occupants at the time of the crash, while the other vehicle involved was unoccupied.
As a result of the forceful collision, both commuters in the crashed vehicle suffered injuries. The passenger in the car, Lamarcus Smith, did not survive the wreck and was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics, while the driver was transported to a medical facility for treatment of minor injuries sustained.
The motorist, identified as 26-year-old Myishia Turner from Pittsburg, failed field sobriety tests and was detained by the police on suspicions of driving under the influence of alcohol as soon as she was discharged from the hospital.
The name and location of the holding facility in which Myishia was booked were not disclosed in the report.
The incident remains under investigation by the Clayton Police Department.
