Cyclist, Gilbert Chang Die in Livermore Traffic Collision That Left Dustin Holland Severely Injured

Two commuters were involved in a fatal car-versus-motorcycle collision, which took place on North Vasco Road in Livermore, California, on Sunday night, with at least one death recorded. The tragic occurrence happened on Sunday, March 29.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the accident at about 9 pm and discovered two casualties spread across the roadway, both plagued with major injuries.

Investigators determined that one of the accident victims, identified as Gilbert Chang of Brentwood, was riding a red-colored 2018 Ducati motorcycle through the northbound lanes on North Vasco Road.

Just as he neared the Republic Services Vasco Road Landfill, the cyclist, for reasons yet to be ascertained, jumped the double-yellow dividing lines into the south traffic lanes, colliding with a southbound silver Chevrolet Trailblazer almost immediately.

The force of the collision caused the 48-year-old biker to be expelled from the motorcycle, onto the windshield of the Chevrolet, before rolling down and coming to rest on the roadway, suffering significant injuries as a result.

Rescue operatives with the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department arrived at the scene shortly after and pronounced Gilbert dead.

Meanwhile, the other vehicle operator, Dustin Holland, 34, a Livermore local, survived the wreck and was transported to Eden Medical Center for treatment.

The wreck shut down North Vasco Road for hours until the damaged vehicles were cleared from the crash site, and necessary evidence collected. No other casualty was recorded in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
