Single-Vehicle Crash in Gridley Kills Dustin Ray Womack

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a man who met his end after running his vehicle into a drainage canal in Gridley, California. The tragic incident was reported on Sunday, April 5, and may require an excellent car accident lawyer to prove that the fatal victim was not at fault.

Officers of the CHP responded to the incident near Liberty and Pennington roads, and found a car, almost completely submerged in the canal, with the driver still trapped inside.

It was reported that the fatal victim was driving his car through the westbound Liberty Road, towards the exit ramp. Suddenly, the motorist slammed into a gate guarding a private property, which gave way so that he skidded into the private terrain.

The car kept moving out of control through a muddy, steep patch scattered with grasses until it approached a 90-degree bend. However, before making a complete maneuver through the bend, the car overturned into a nearby canal.

The car operator could not make it out of the vehicle before it sank. Emergency responders found the man already dead upon pulling out his car.

The identity of the deceased was disclosed as Dustin Ray Womack, a 31-year-old Gridley man. It was not immediately determined whether drugs or alcohol contributed to Womack’s fatal crash.

Solo-vehicle crashes across the state of California are often linked to a slip from the driver. However, improperly positioned road bends, traffic signs, or potential traffic hazards may be responsible, but have to be accessed by a car accident lawyer to make a good case.
