A suspected armed robber has been arrested in San Francisco, California, for his alleged involvement in a violent robbery operation in Chinatown last year. The San Francisco Police Department announced the suspect’s arrest on Wednesday, April 8.
Authorities revealed that the suspect, 22-year-old Christopher Jefferson, was arrested last week Wednesday, April 1 in the Stockton area. His arrest marks the third made concerning the Chinatown robbery.
Police reports obtained confirmed that the violent affair took place at Stockton and Pacific streets on July 15, 2019.
Officers responded to the robbery report on the said date, and found two assaulted victims, with no sign of the robbers.
When interrogated, one of the victims, identified as Walter Wong, 57, divulged that he was attacked by three men who approached him while observing the red light at an intersection. After brutally assaulting Wong, the suspects robbed him of his wristwatch while he was unconscious.
A friend who witnessed the attack rushed to the scene to help, but one of the suspects punched him on the face, knocking him to the ground. A dashcam footage of the incident recorded the abuse on the 67-year-old man, who sustained bruises as a result.
Wong suffered head bruises, and a fractured cheekbone, and was transported to an area hospital after regaining consciousness.
Police earlier identified two of the suspects from the footage, first, Dashawn Pierson, 19, who was arrested in Oakland on October 22, 2019. The other suspect, Akeem Smith, 20, of Sacramento, was taken into custody on January 22, after being apprehended in Alameda County.
Interrogation of both men led to the eventual apprehension of Christopher Jefferson last week. The suspect is faced with charges of robbery and assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury.
He is also charged with elder abuse and aggravated battery, causing serious bodily injury. Jefferson is being held at the San Francisco County Jail.
