Margarita Erostico Ruiz Killed by Brick Smashing Through Vehicle Window in Concord

Authorities have released the identity of the woman who died after a boulder smashed through the passenger window of a vehicle she was riding in and hit her in Concord, California. Accident reports supplied by the Contra Costa County Coroner’s office on Monday, April 13, named the fatal victim as Margarita Erostico Ruiz, a 63-year-old Antioch resident.

The fatal occurrence took place at about 9:30 pm on Friday, April 10. The California Highway Patrol reported that Ruiz was riding in the front passenger seat of a car, alongside three other occupants.

The 2004 Volkswagen Jetta was travelling along Highway 242, near state Highway 4, when a brick smashed through the window on Ruiz’s side, striking her brutally.

Emergency responders tried to rescue the woman by administering life-saving measures, but she eventually succumbed to her wounds and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Meanwhile, the 20-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen and two juveniles riding in the back seat emerged from the mishap unscathed.

Investigating officers were unable to immediately determine the origin of the brick which struck and killed the Antioch resident.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information that could assist in effectively solving the case were urged to get in touch with the Contra Costa-area CHP office.

An update on the investigative process would be provided in subsequent accident reports and disclosed as soon as it is made available.
