A woman was killed on Sunday, April 12, in a fire which engulfed a Gifford Street apartment in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Accident reports obtained from the Falmouth Police Department confirmed that the fatal victim was a 67-year-old woman, identified as Mary Jo Nelson.

The fire was reported at precisely 5:15 pm. Fire operatives arrived at the location shortly after to discover a heavy cloud of smoke emanating from an ablaze building.

The firefighters utilized several hose lines before they were able to bring the fire under control. Officials said the operation took about 30 minutes.

After containing the fire, the fire rescue crew searched through the burned apartment and discovered the body of Nelson inside. Paramedics pronounced the elderly woman dead at the scene.

Speaking on behalf of the Falmouth Fire Department, Fire Chief, Michael Small extended sincere condolences to the deceased’s family.
