A 58-year-old man volunteering at the coronavirus Food Drive in Sylmar, California, who was fatally struck by a vehicle last week, has been identified. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office on Sunday, April 19, disclosed the deceased’s name as Arturo Melendez, 58, of San Fernando. The reports, however, did not indicate the involvement of a car accident attorney.
The tragic collision took place on Friday, April 17, at about 7:45 am. According to reports by the Los Angeles Police department, the fatal accident happened in a parking lot near the intersection ofEl Casco Street and Glenoaks Boulevard.
The victim was reportedly struck by a vehicle, which pushed him onto a parked one so that he was left pinned between the two cars at the parking lot.
Emergency responders transported the San Francisco resident to an area hospital where he sadly succumbed to his fatal wounds.
Meanwhile, the motorist who hit Melendez waited at the scene until the police arrived. He cooperated with them without incident. Police do not suspect impairment as a factor in the crash.
The Los Angeles Councilwoman, Monica Rodriguez, said in a press release on Saturday that the county authorities had plans in place to increase on-site traffic safety measures to ensure the safety of volunteers in coronavirus relief Food Drives across the county.
The new legislation is set to be introduced soon enough, and would hopefully prevent more wrongful deaths from occurring in COVID-19 relief sites.
Melendez’s family is likely to contact a car accident attorney to the case and secure maximum compensation for damages.
