Authorities have identified the woman who crashed her vehicle last week while trying to avoid an initial traffic collision on Highway 101 in Palo Alto, California. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Maria Lozano, 46, of Fresno, according to new accident reports obtained from the CHP on Monday, April 27.
At about 4:20 p.m. on Monday, April 20, officers responded to a crash on Highway 101. Responding officers discovered an unresponsive woman and her 14-year-old daughter, both victims of the crash.
As reported by the California Highway Patrol, a woman was traveling through the north traffic lanes on the highway, just south of Embarcadero Road in a Chevrolet Tahoe.
The motorist suddenly encountered the scene of a collision which happened earlier on the highway involving a Toyota Prius and a Ford Mustang. Just as the woman swerved to avoid the vehicles, her vehicle spiraled out of control, flipped over at least twice before coming to rest on the side of the roadway.
The Chevrolet operator, who was not restrained by a seatbelt at the time, was ejected from the vehicle in the process, suffering fatal injuries as a result.
Maria Lozano’s teenage daughter, who was riding alongside her as a front seat passenger remained in the wrecked car, and sustained minor injuries. Officers said the 14-year-old was wearing a seat belt.
According to the accident reports, none of the parties involved in the initial crash was hurt.
