Robbery Suspect Michael Britt Who Ran Over Store Employee While Fleeing, Arrested

Michael Britt

Weeks after a man ran over a local shop employee after robbing a convenience store in Bakersfield, California, the suspected robber has been detained by the police. The police and U.S Marshals Service announced the culprit’s arrest on Wednesday, April 29, as confirmed in the updated accident reports. He was identified as Michael Britt, 28.

The incident was reported on Friday, April 10, in the Rite Aide convenience store located on 1601 23rd Street. Employees said two people raided the store, stuffing merchandise into their duffel bags.

When employees raised the alarm and tried to accost them, the two robbers ran out of the store into a waiting vehicle parked just outside.

One of the employees went after them and attempted to copy out the number on the vehicle’s license plate. However, a third accomplice, who was driving the car at the time, ran him over intentionally to stop his actions. The Rite Aide staff suffered only minor injuries in the collision.

The robbers fled the scene before police arrived. Weeks later, police found one of the suspects, identified as Michael Britt in the 800 block of 8th Street, where he was immediately taken into custody, the accident reports affirmed.

In addition to the April 10 theft, police linked Britt to at least ten other robberies that happened in the area in the last two months. The whereabouts of the two other accomplices remain unknown. Britt has been charged with robbery, as well as assault with a deadly weapon.
