A wild police chase through the Yakima area of Washington ended in a tragic collision that left a suspected burglar severely injured. Accident reports supplied by the Washington State Police confirmed the incident, which occurred on Thursday morning, April 30.
Reporting the incident, the WSP said that officers identified an alleged burglar at about 12:30 am, in the area of 96th Avenue and Tieton Drive, and immediately followed in pursuit.
The suspect, whose name was revealed as Rudolph Allen, 24, tried to evade the officers, fleeing in a vehicle with him as its sole occupant. The chase continued for about 30 minutes.
At precisely 1 am, the fleeing vehicle smashed into the guardrail of a center median, off the exit ramp of 16th Avenue, following three consecutive pit maneuvres executed by patrol officers to stall the suspect.
The impact of the collision caused severe damages to the vehicle, leaving the motorist critically injured. There was no other vehicle involved in the crash, neither was any pedestrian harmed.
Medics were called to the crash site soon after it happened, and they transported him to Harborview Medical in Seattle. His present condition was not disclosed in the accident reports.
The reports did not disclose details of the burglary that set patrol officers on Rudolph Allen’s trail.
In addition to several felony charges the suspect is faced with, he also has outstanding warrants for previous offenses. He would most likely be booked upon his discharge from the hospital.
