The man who was fatally injured last week in a single-vehicle crash in Blythe, California, has been identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office. In the accident reports released on Sunday, May 3, the deceased motorist’s identity was disclosed as Roberto Valasquez, a 58-year-old resident of Colton.
Confirming the deadly occurrence, the California Highway Patrol said the victim crashed his vehicle on Interstate 10 Freeway at precisely 8:08 pm on Friday, May 1.
According to a testimony obtained from an eyewitness, the vehicle involved was traveling at a high rate of speed through the west traffic lanes of the I-10 Freeway before the crash happened.
About a half-mile from Neighbors Boulevard, the speeding vehicle, for unknown reasons, went off the shoulder of the road and skidded violently through the fields. It eventually came to rest about 150 feet from the freeway, the CHP affirmed.
Emergency responders pronounced Valasquez dead at the scene upon their arrival. The accident reports did not ascertain whether there were other commuters present in the wrecked vehicle at the time of the crash.
Although speed appears to be a factor, further investigations would determine whether other factors like impairment by drugs or alcohol, distracted driving, a health condition, or improper lighting contributed to the fatal incident.
Motorists are advised to always maintain a safe speed while driving through highways as overspeeding has been known to be a leading cause of highway fatalities.
