A woman was arrested this week in the Chico area of California after carjacking an elderly citizen’s vehicle and causing a wrong-way crash while fleeing police. Accident reports obtained from the Chico Police Department confirmed that the incident took place on Monday, May 4th.

According to the reports, the encounter began in front of a store located on the 1900-block of Esplanade. The Chico Police received a call from a 71-year-old woman who reported that her car, a Honda CRV, was stolen by a female.

The elderly woman told police that the suspect bumped her with the vehicle in an attempt to run her over before fleeing in the stolen car. The woman suffered minor injuries as a result and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, officers later spotted the vehicle a few miles from the store and followed in pursuit. The suspect, identified as Tricia Nuki, was reportedly driving at a speed above 100 mph as she fled through Highway 99 and Highway 149 before returning northbound on 99, with officers on her trail.

Upon approaching Neal Road, Nuki drove the Honda into the southbound traffic and then collided slightly with an oncoming vehicle whose driver suffered minor injuries as a result.

Officers located the motorist through multiple calls from commuters reporting a wrong-way driver. Deputies arrived just in time to witness the alleged car thief pull to the side of the road after the crash.

Tricia Nuki was taken into custody on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, carjacking, theft of a motor vehicle, elder abuse, recklessly evading police, and elder abuse, as confirmed in the accident reports.
