Authorities have identified the motorcyclist who died in a crash Monday morning while allegedly fleeing a traffic stop on Washington 3 near Gorst.

Tobin Von Ditter, 35, of Port Orchard, died at the scene of the wreck, which was reported at about 9:30 a.m. Monday, according to the Washington State Patrol. One other vehicle was involved in the wreck, but car accident reports available Wednesday did not list any additional injuries.

Troopers said they attempted to pull over a motorcycle that was speeding on Washington 3 at about 9:30 a.m. Monday. The motorcyclist, later identified as Von Ditter, sped away from the trooper headed toward Belfair, according to car accident reports.

Von Ditter’s motorcycle collided with a vehicle at the intersection with Sam Christopherson Avenue, troopers said. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, but Von Ditter reportedly succumbed to his injuries before he could be transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Authorities did not identify the driver of the other vehicle. However, car accident reports state that the driver was not injured in the wreck.

The Washington State Patrol said excessive speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the incident. They have not said whether other factors, such as intoxication, are thought to have been involved.

“Heart is going out to family and friends for Tobin Von Ditter,” wrote one friend on Facebook. “He was (a) longtime friend and will be missed.”
