A suspected DUI motorist was taken into custody on Wednesday, May 6, three months after allegedly crashing his vehicle while intoxicated, leading to one fatality. The incident took place in Pomona, California, and the suspect would need the services of a drunk driving attorney.
Initial reports obtained from the Pomona Police Department confirmed that one person died in the crash on February 7. Two others, including the alleged DUI driver, suffered severe injuries. Police said it happened in the 2200-block of North Garey Avenue at about 2 a.m.
Investigators determined that the suspect, Javan Draper, 45, of Pomona, was behind the wheels of a vehicle, heading south on N. Garey Avenue. The man was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed, conveying two passengers.
While in transit, the car suddenly collided with a concrete center median. The impact of the collision caused Draper’s vehicle to flip over and smash into a large palm tree. Two of the occupants remained trapped in the car, while the third person got ejected.
A passenger in the car, identified as 23-year-old Anthony Tucker, of Pomona, sustained fatal injuries, and responding medics pronounced him deceased. First responders transported the other two, including Draper, to a hospital for treatment.
Officers gathered from investigations that Draper was driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance. In addition, he had a recent DUI conviction and was driving on a suspended license.
Following court proceedings, police detained the suspect on a warrant. He faces charges of murder and DUI, causing death. According to jail records, the convict has a bail set at $2.5 million. Anyone involved in a DUI-related traffic crash can contact a drunk driving attorney for legal counsel and representation.
