Authorities have identified the woman who died Saturday in a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on a state highway in Kitsap County.
Christy M. Smith, 79, of Poulsbo, died at an area hospital shortly after the wreck, which was reported just after 4 p.m. Saturday, the Washington State Patrol reported. Two other people also were injured in the crash, according to car accident reports.
Troopers said Smith was driving south on Washington 3 at about 4 p.m. when she attempted to turn onto Washington 303. Smith lost control of her vehicle and crossed the highway’s centerline, striking another southbound vehicle, car accident reports state.
Authorities said Smith was airlifted to a Seattle hospital, where she was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene to treat the driver of the other vehicle, identified in car accident reports as a 54-year-old Port Angeles woman, and a 10-year-old passenger. Troopers said three other occupants of the vehicle were not injured in the collision.
Updated condition reports weren’t available Monday.
It is unclear from car accident reports available Monday whether authorities have determined what led Smith to lose control of her vehicle. However, investigators said they do not suspect intoxicants were a factor in the incident.
The crash remains under investigation by the Washington State Patrol. No citations or charges have been issued in connection to the wreck.
