A multivehicle vehicle collision in Baldwin Park, California, involving twenty people, left a 13-year-old dead, accident reports say. The crash happened on Sunday, May 10, at about 1:45 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol made a press release detailing how the accident happened. The CHP reported that Angel Jesus Aragon, 32, driving a tow truck, was headed east on the 10 Freeway, west of Francisquito Avenue. He failed to stop in time for upcoming traffic and crashed into a white Toyota Corolla that had one occupant.
While trying to avoid the collision with the Corolla, Aragon also struck the rear of a gray 2018 Nissan Murano. Five people were in the vehicle. The impact of the crash caused the Nissan to crash into the center divider wall.
A Dodge Ram then drove into the right side of the Nissan. The teenage victim was sitting on the right side of the backseat of the Nissan and died at the scene of the crash.
Following the collision with the Dodge, a Toyota was pushed into the back of a blue Kia Niro. The Kia, in turn, hit the back of a white Honda Odyssey. The latter crashed into a blue Honda CRV, which also collided with a silver Toyota Corolla.
The impact caused the Corolla to hit the back of the flatbed tow truck. A white Lexus didn’t stop in time and hit the front of the Nissan Murano.
The multi-vehicle crashes led to the closure of all lanes of the 10 Freeway at about 1:50 p.m. Authorities issued a SigAlert.
The carpool lane was opened at 2:40 p.m., while the SigAlert ended around 6 p.m. Accident reports revealed that paramedics took the individuals involved in the accident to USC Medical Center with varying degrees of injuries.
