Theodore Contreras Identified as Man who Died in Santa Ana’s Train Collision

An accident report update from the Santa Ana area of California disclosed the authorities revealed the identity of the man who died in a train-pedestrian crash. They announced the deceased’s name on Monday, May 25th, as Theodore Contreras, 26.

The Orange County Coroner’s Office said in its report that the deceased was a homeless man living in the county. He passed away from the injuries sustained in the tragic accident, and the Santa Ana Police Spokesman Anthony Bertagna said that their investigation shows Contreras’ death might be a suicide.

So far, the investigators have uncovered that the fatal accident occurred close to Lyons Street crossing between Orange and Tustin at around 3:50 p.m. on Sunday, May 24th. The Metrolink Spokesman Paul Gonzales said the collision involved an Amtrak train 580 heading south.

After hitting Contreras, the train stopped at the scene, and Metrolink arranged for buses to move the passengers. Gonzales and the coroner said that no passenger on the train sustained injuries in the accident, and the victim died at the scene.

The collision delayed the passengers heading north while the authorities carried out their investigations. Metrolink disclosed that those affected could redeem a rider share voucher worth up to $50 on their website. There is no additional information at this time.

Train-pedestrian accidents are not uncommon with people trespassing at crossings and disobeying no crossing warnings, as seen in accident reports. Railway authorities advise pedestrians to stay away from train tracks and cross only at designated sections where the sign is functional.
