A 55-year-old motorcycle rider lost his life after a solo crash in Yolo County, California, on Thursday, June 4th. The Yolo County Coroner named Timothy Q. Thomas, as the man killed in the accident that occurred at about 5:15 p.m.

The accident report released by the California Highway Patrol disclosed that Thomas was heading east in his Honda VT750 motorcycle on Highway 16 in Capay.  He was traveling at high speed and failed to rightly negotiate a left curve in the roadway at Taber’s Court.

The victim rode off the edge of the south road onto a grass embankment and went down on his side. The CHP said Thomas continued down the embankment, struck a metal gate, continued a short distance past the gate, before resting in a patch of green vegetation.

The investigators said that the rider ejected from the motorcycle during the collision. He was wearing an illegal helmet with no lining, padding, or Department of Transportation sticker. The headgear appeared to have fallen off the man’s head during the occurrence.

Thomas sustained extensive injuries and died at the scene. The CHP said their preliminary investigation showed that alcohol might have contributed to the fatal accident. They asked anyone with information to contact their Woodland office.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles stipulates that motorcycle riders have a safety helmet certified by the manufacturer stating that it complies with the US-DOT Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 218. It goes a long way to prevent head injuries and reduce the fatality rate.
