The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, the US Coast Guard, and the California State Parks on Sunday, June 14th, recovered and identified the teenager who died in a kayaking accident near Trinidad, California. Nicholas Brunner, 19, died during the weekend when something went wrong during a kayaking excursion.

The accident report disclosed that the sheriff’s office, the coast guard, and the park authorities found the victim’s body in an ocean area off Trinidad’s city about 10 miles north of Humboldt Bay in Northern California. The police said that they received a missing person’s report about Brunner on Friday, June 12th, after he didn’t return from the excursion that morning.

Officers began a search for the teenager and found his car in Trinidad Harbor parking lot. Later that day, searchers with the HCSO, the coast guard, and the CSP recovered an empty kayak alongside other items like a life jacket and identification papers.

The search extended to Saturday, June 13th, and on Sunday, a volunteer team of city divers discovered Brunner’s body. The victim lived in McKinleyville until his death and was a golfer with the La Quinta High School until he graduated in 2019. The school’s golfing coach, Gary Nadler, remembered the teen as someone who always had a smile on his face.

The coach said those who knew the victim had nothing but beautiful things to say about him. He added that Brunner enjoyed golfing and wrestling, and liked to have fun. There is currently no additional information at this time.
