A press release by the California Highway Patrol on Monday, June 22nd, disclosed that a man identified as James Gardner lost his life in a solo crash in Mendocino County, California. Based on the accident report, the crash happened around 4:18 a.m. on Sunday, June 21st, on US 101.
The victim was driving a 1995 Toyota T100 on the roadway north of Reynolds Highway. The CHP said that for reasons that remain unclear, Gardner lost control of his car, traveled off the east side of the road before colliding with an embankment, and overturning.
The impact of the crash ejected the man from the Toyota, and he sustained fatal injuries. There was no other person involved in the accident. It led to the closure of the northbound number two-lane for approximately two hours while investigators recovered the vehicle and carried out a preliminary investigation.
The CHP had the assistance of Cal Fire, Cal-Trans, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Department, and the Long-Valley Volunteer Fire Department. The investigation is ongoing, and it is unknown if drugs and alcohol played a role in the accident.
Motor vehicle accidents are caused by several factors that are preventable if drivers follow traffic rules and regulations. One such law is wearing a seat belt when in transit, as it helps to keep occupants of a car in place when a crash occurs. It also helps in the deployment of the airbag, and the latter helps in preventing head injuries.
